AiniBijoux: a jewelry maker and button artisan in one

April 1, 2025  /  10:49 AM

My name is Martina Vančurová and I’m the creative soul behind the brand AiniBijoux, under which I craft textile buttons and the jewelry made from them. I’ve been working with various small-scale textile techniques and incorporating them into jewelry and fashion accessories for over 20 years. For the past six years, I’ve been focusing primarily on creating jewelry made mostly from fabric-covered and thread-wrapped buttons.

I love old traditions and crafts, and that’s why I try to include as much of our country’s rich textile heritage in my work as possible. The largest part of my work involves jewelry made from fabric-covered buttons, and I’m constantly looking for new ways to enrich my craft—blending techniques and collaborating with other artisans. And I’m proud to say, it’s working! In recent years, I’ve teamed up with several textile producers, and so you can find truly unique pieces in my collection: jewelry made from Strážnice indigo prints, Czech brocade from Hedva, Slovácko embroidery by Magdino vyšívání, or pieces created with handwoven fabrics thanks to my collaboration with weaver Pèlerine. Of course, classic cotton and specialty fabrics also play an important role in my creations.

Because all my jewelry is made from buttons I create myself, I also offer these buttons separately. Whether you sew, upholster furniture, or are a fellow jewelry maker looking for interesting textile "cabochons" for your work—I’ll be happy to make custom buttons just for you. Or even better—custom jewelry perfectly matched to your designs, made from the very same fabric.

In addition to making fabric buttons, I’ve also fallen in love with the nearly forgotten technique of hand-made thread buttons. I’m currently working on a new project dedicated to this and other lesser-known historic textile techniques. I plan to launch a new website soon: www.vyrobaknofliku.cz, where I’ll present this old craft, offer materials and tools, and run workshops for this once-traditional technique. The site isn’t live yet, but I hope to have at least a basic version up and running in time for the exhibition.

So, what can you look forward to at my booth during BPM?

I’ll be bringing a wide selection of button jewelry—earrings, brooches, pendants, bracelets, rings, hair clips…—made from traditional folk textiles as well as in modern designs. You’ll also be able to buy buttons for your own creative projects.

There will be jewelry made using knotting, frame weaving, card weaving, lucet braiding, micromacramé, classic buttons, and hand-crafted thread buttons. I’m also preparing DIY kits using indigo print and buttons. You’ll be able to explore a rich display of thread buttons. And last but not least, I’ll be offering custom button and jewelry creation—feel free to reach out if you’re interested!

I'm looking forward to meeting you in person at my booth during the Brno Patchwork Meeting, April 25–27, 2025.
