Australian Quilters Head to Brno Patchwork Meeting: A Unique Trip Full of Inspiration
April 17, 2025 / 10:58 AM
Each year, the Brno Patchwork Meeting attracts visitors from around the globe. This year, however, the event will welcome a truly special group – a delegation of Australian quilters traveling to the exhibition as part of an exclusive tour. For these passionate textile enthusiasts, the Brno Patchwork Meeting is one of the highlights of their European journey, blending history, architecture, and, of course, quilting.
Quilters on the Move: From Český Krumlov to Brno
The tour begins in the picturesque town of Český Krumlov, where the group will spend two nights immersing themselves in the beauty of this historic gem. Following their stay, the quilters will embark on an unforgettable Danube River cruise, stopping in Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, and Melk. Onboard, they won’t just admire the castles and breathtaking scenery – they’ll also work on a special quilt project, “Towering Pinwheels”, a keepsake of their incredible adventure.
After the cruise, the quilters will arrive in Brno for three days of inspiration at the Brno Patchwork Meeting. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and diverse exhibits, this exhibition offers attendees the chance to admire Czech and international creations while sharing experiences with fellow patchwork and quilting enthusiasts.
A Unique Tour with a Long Tradition
The tour is organized by experienced guide Michelle Marvig, a passionate quilter herself with over 30 years in the Australian quilting industry. This talented woman has published hundreds of patterns, six books, and designed several fabric collections. Michelle hosted her first quilt tour in 2008 and has since organized trips to destinations such as Japan, Canada, France, and Vietnam. Brno Patchwork Meeting, however, marks a brand-new destination for her and her group, and they are eagerly looking forward to it.
Brno as a Hub of Inspiration
For the Australian quilters, visiting the Brno Patchwork Meeting is a unique opportunity to explore European trends in textile art, make new friends, and gather inspiration for their own creations. “The quilts we create during the tour are wonderful memories of our shared adventures,” says Michelle.
The exhibition is just one of many highlights of their journey. After Brno, the group will travel to Prague to visit the Mucha Museum, quilting supply shops, and the Museum of Decorative Arts. While the trip ends there for some, others will continue exploring the beauty of Germany for another week.
More Than Quilting: Friendships and Experiences
The tour to the Brno Patchwork Meeting isn’t just about quilting. It’s also an opportunity to meet new friends, share a passion for textile art, and discover the beauty of Europe. With its blend of cultural, historical, and creative experiences, this tour will undoubtedly be a cherished memory for the Australian quilters.
Once again, Brno becomes a meeting place for sharing a love of textile art that transcends borders.
We wish the Australian group a wonderful experience and hope they will return to the exhibition in the future.
We look forward to welcoming you from April 25 to 27, 2025!
