Martina Holcrová: Handwoven Home and Fashion Accessories
April 11, 2025 / 10:10 AM
The symbolic flagship—and freight ship—of my work are rag rugs made from worn-out textiles. The patterns are partly inspired by open-air museum classics and partly by the diversity of nature. Of course, I also weave custom replicas of damaged pieces. My motto, "Don't throw your old T-shirt in the trash—throw it on the floor instead," has followed me since my very first weaving attempts.
Since weaving with only one technique would soon bore me, I also turn to more delicate fabrics and multi-year weaving projects, where I create cotton and wool textiles inspired by historical finds.
I use commercial yarns for the warp, as they guarantee consistent twist, thickness, and strength. For the weft, I use both commercial yarns and hand-spun raw sheep fleece.
I am a member of the Association of Folk Craftsmen and Artisans, and my textiles proudly bear the Hanácké vérobek regional trademark.
