Representatives of the Pilsen Region came to the Brno Exhibition Centre to present their natural sights and gastronomic gems. At its stand in Hall V, the region offers visitors traditional Chodov cakes and beer from the Chodovar brewery, which also offers visitors a chance to visit the associated hotel, beer spa or Ve Skála restaurant. The stand also presents the only spa in the Pilsen region, the Konstantin Spa, and the Tachov and Chod costumes, which are still part of the everyday life of the local inhabitants.
The Pilsen region is not very densely populated, which attracts tourists who do not like crowds. A significant part of the region consists of places that have been closed for a long time and inaccessible to people, such as the Bohemian Forest. "Today, many new resorts have been built there. Their visitors are glad that when they go for a bike ride or a walk, they won't meet anyone," says Libor Picka, the Pilsen Region's councillor for culture, heritage and tourism. In addition, the region is also trying to support caravan parks in the Bohemian Forest area, sixteen of which are set up each year and a budget of CZK 8 million has been allocated for them.
In addition to the Bohemian Forest, Šumava, Brdy, Domažlice and Tachov are also popular tourist destinations. A unique feature of the region is the Míšov atomic shelter, which is the only atomic shelter where weapons were stored on the territory of the Warsaw Pact and is now open to the public.
