igm: Automation of welding processes

August 8, 2024  /  10:35 AM

igm Robotersysteme AG specializes in the automation of welding processes. The first self-developed welding robot came onto the market at the end of the 1970s, for which igm was honoured with the Austrian State Prize for Innovation. Igm is the only Austrian manufacturer of welding robot systems, we only produce customized systems. Robot systems are all from our own development and production. This includes robots with control systems, tracks, manipulators and sensors. Our customers are mainly manufacturers of heavy machinery (earthmoving machines, trucks, railway rolling stock, cranes, forklifts, etc.) worldwide.

Exhibit: igm compact system MB/RP2
  • Complete system for 1-station operation with stationary robot and rotary tilting table for workpiece manipulation.
  • RTE 476 robot - 6-axis robot with proven RCE control using the K6 programming pendant. This 6 axis welding robot is made of a rigid casted aluminum alloy and is suitable for standing or suspended mounted installation. The robots are designed specifically for arc welding: one unique feature is that all the media needed for welding are directed first through the primary axis and then through the hollow shaft into the wrist axis, allowing the welding torch to complete two full turns. The result is significant advantage in terms of accessibility to tight workpieces and in circular seams.
  • iCAM-PRO - Laser camera: online seam tracking system.

This laser camera offers the significant advantage of integration into the robot control system. It is programmed through the igm K6 teach pendant; no additional PC is required. The seam information obtained (including position and dimensions) is transmitted to the robot control system through different hardware interfaces and used to calculate trajectories.
