MSV Gold Medal 2024: We know the results of the prestigious competition for the most innovative trade fair exhibits

October 9, 2024  /  1:31 PM

Gold medals have been awarded at the MSV for 50 years. Six exhibits won this year's awards, and Prime Minister Petr Fiala also congratulated the winners. The ceremony of announcing the results and presenting the awards took place in the rotunda of Pavilion A as part of the opening ceremony of MSV 2024.

The tradition of the MSV Gold Medal competition dates back to 1964. The winning exhibits are of an exceptionally high standard, meet the parameters of the world competition and deserve the attention of the professional and lay public. This year, the results were decided by a fourteen-member expert committee led by Jiří Hlinka, dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at BUT in Brno. Prime Minister Petr Fiala, newly appointed Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček, Rector of BUT in Brno Ladislav Janíček and CEO of Veletrhy Brno Jan Kubata presented the gold medals to the winners.

A novelty of the year was the awarding of the Gold Medal of the chairman of the evaluation commission for an extraordinary result of cooperation in research and development between the academic and industrial spheres. Exhibits were not submitted to this category, but nominated by the members of the evaluation committee themselves as part of the exhibit evaluation. For the 18th time, the Gold Medal was also awarded for a lifetime of creative technical work and innovative achievements. In 2006, the initiator of this idea was Roman Dvořák, editor-in-chief of the engineering magazine MM Průmyslové spektrum, who suggested regularly awarding significant figures in engineering and other fields. The laureates of this gold medal have contributed significantly to the development of the technical field in which they worked or continue to work during their professional lives.

Exhibit: An innovative CNC educational system for secondary vocational schools
Manufacturer: DynamiTech s.r.o.
Exhibitor:Siemens, s.r.o.
Location of the exhibit:Hall F, stand no. 220

Brief characteristics of the exhibit

An innovative educational system for secondary vocational schools based on a real machine and its digital twin, which combines the advantages of the "light" DYNATURN 102 CNC lathe and the newly available SW RunMyVirtualMachine for medium-class machines equipped with the Sinumerik 828 system. This combination enables complete preparation of machining technology in a completely safe virtual environment with subsequent overlap into the real world of machining. Future users of this system will therefore receive complete equipment for educational purposes (a real CNC machine, a digital twin of this machine and software that will enable complete preparation of the technology as in a real environment). All this at a price that will finally bring modern CNC technology to everyone.

Exhibitor won award in the category:
Gold Medal for innovation in industrial automation, digital technology and Industry 4.0

Exhibit: Coordinate measuring machine Renishaw AGILITY S12129
Manufacturer: Renishaw plc, United Kingdom
Exhibitor:Renishaw s.r.o.
Location of the exhibit:Hall P, stand no. 093

Brief characteristics of the exhibit

The S range of AGILITY CMMs provides the ability to accurately measure parts in shop floor environments without temperature control. The rapid data capture speeds provided by 5-axis measurement reduce inspection cycle times, helping production departments keep pace with high volume manufacture. The systems work well in both stand-alone and fully automated production lines.

Exhibitor won award in the category:
Gold Medal for innovation in transport and logistics

Exhibit: Flexible modular system for building cycle paths on disused railway lines
Manufacturer: Strojnícka fakulta, Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave, Slovensko
Fakulta stavební, Vysoké učení technické v Brně, Česká republika
Fakulta strojního inženýrství, Vysoké učení technické v Brně, Česká republika
Prefa Brno a.s., Česká republika
Exhibitor:Strojnícka fakulta, Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave, Slovensko
Location of the exhibit:Hall V, stand no. 147

Brief characteristics of the exhibit

The modular building block system for building cycle paths consists of a flat panel with a square geometric shape and a specially shaped connector. The panel is made of composite concrete, while it has a system of special grooves with holes into which connectors can be inserted as needed. By partially inserting the coupling into the groove under the head of the rail, we ensure a firm anchoring of the panel to the rail. The protruding end of the connector ensures a solid connection of the panel to the next panel. Inserting the connector into the groove on the edge of the panel allows connecting several panels next to each other or creating 3D constructions such as a side barrier, a railing, a shelter for cyclists or covering the track itself. The designed flexible modular system allows quick disassembly and reuse of the track without damaging the rails, if necessary. The system is still under development.

Gold Medal of the Chairperson of the Evaluation Committee for an outstanding result in research and development cooperation between academia and industry

Exhibit: Electrochemical surface polishing of additively manufactured metal components
Manufacturer: ONE3D s. r. o.
Exhibitor:Vysoké učení technické v Brně - Fakulta strojního inženýrství
Location of the exhibit:Hall A, stand no. 004

Brief characteristics of the exhibit

The technology realises the electrochemical treatment of parts produced by additive manufacturing from stainless steel 316L and aluminium alloy AlSi10Mg. The technology achieves an average reduction in surface roughness of 50% or more, depending on the surface type. It is designed for small-scale industrial production of parts up to 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 m in size. The process targets thin-walled shaped parts with a wall thickness of 0.4-1.0 mm, components with internal channels with a diameter of 3.0- 10.0 mm and spatial structures from thin struts with dimensions of 0.6-1.5 mm.
