RIMJHIM ISPAT LIMITED: Where quality scrap turns into quality steel

April 2, 2025  /  3:49 PM

RIMJHIM ISPAT is the second largest processor of steel scrap in India. It employs over 5,000 people at its two plants in Kanpur and Orissa where they produce both flat and rolled products through a step-by-step process from scrap melting to secondary refining to rolling.

RIMJHIM ISPAT is India's only steel plant that produces both billets and wire rods, plate, wire, polished bars or coils hot and cold drawn, i.e. covering the entire steel product portfolio. The company buys steel scrap all over the world, especially in Europe, the USA, Vietnam and other countries. This scrap undergoes a thorough inspection, as only from a quality raw material can a quality final product be obtained. Likewise, the entire production process is subject to continuous control.

The company is exemplary in its approach to sustainability. It does not purchase any raw material, it only processes material for recycling. RIMJHIM ISPAT undergoes quarterly self-certification on CBAM (Carbon Boundary Offset Mechanism) as per the standards set by DQS. In terms of energy supply for both steel mills, it already operates both wind and solar farms and intends to invest further in solar power.

Currently, 60% of RIMJHIM ISPAT's production goes to the domestic Indian market, with only 40% going for export. Half of this value is direct supply, the rest is exported through other producers or processors. The company's steel products find applications in engineering, wire products, fencing, filters and many others.

At the Stainless 2025, the company would like to find new customers and meet existing ones, whether from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Romania or even Western Europe.
