The creative director of Miss Czech Republic, Sam Dolce, will have his premiere at Style and Kab. “The show at the Styl and Kabo fair, which I am preparing under the Koncept D brand, will present a sophisticatedly appealing collection that uses a fusion of historicizing elements and modern design. The collection is inspired by the beauty of past eras, which I combined with current fashion trends, creating a unique and timeless look," says Dolce.
You engage in many activities – what all are you doing at the moment?
I am dedicated to various activities that fulfill me and allow me to express my creativity. I am the designer and creative director of the most prestigious beauty pageant in the Czech Republic, Miss Czech Republic, where I participate in the designs and the overall visual concept. In addition, I am a fashion columnist, and I also do make-up art and restoration + redesign of furniture and clothing compositions, which allows me to combine fashion with art to create harmonious and stylish results. I enjoy this diversity because every day brings new challenges and opportunities. I like when I can connect different aspects of my work and look for new inspirations. Every project is an opportunity for me to grow and discover new horizons, which motivates and pleases me.
How did all the activities you engage in follow one another?
My career started with the first year of university studies in fashion design, specifically in the field of make-up. When I applied my hobby, i.e. make-up, professionally while working with magazines like InStyle and others, I made full use of not only the basics of aesthetics and beauty from graphic design, which I studied in high school, but also the subsequent designing of shoes, which I also did several semesters he studied. Working with make-up naturally led me to build a portfolio of my clientele in the industry, whilst also being able to study fashion design at university. Creating clothes allowed me to expand my creative horizons and fully utilize my artistic skills. After that, I accepted the position of creative director of Miss Czech Republic, where I could combine all my previous experience and skills, both in the field of make-up and design, to help shape the overall look and image of the pageant. This sequence enabled me to gradually develop my skills and apply them in various aspects of the fashion & beauty industry.
What do you think is the biggest mistake women make when applying makeup?
One of the biggest mistakes women make when applying makeup is forgetting to take care of their skin before applying makeup. Hydration and proper preparation of the skin significantly affect the final look and durability of the make-up. Another common mistake is the excessive use of highlighters all over the face. Instead of enhancing the natural features of the face, they can look very unnatural and unattractive when used incorrectly.
An important factor for the resulting perfect make-up is appropriate lighting. Correct lighting when applying makeup is key, as poor lighting can distort color perception.
What do you enjoy most about designing?
Above all, it is the opportunity to put a piece of yourself and your passion for history into each design. I love being able to draw inspiration from past eras and reinterpret them in a modern way. Each new project is like a journey through time, where I combine traditional elements with innovative techniques. Seeing my designs come to life and people finding in them a piece of history as well as my own personal enthusiasm is extremely satisfying for me. In addition, I am constantly enjoying discovering new materials and ways to transform my historical inspirations into contemporary fashion.
Can you tell us more about KONCEPT D and DOLCE DERZA?
Koncept D is my signature brand that focuses on combining exclusive and antique materials with modern design. I create collections that combine historical elements with innovative approaches, creating unique and timeless pieces. This concept is based on a careful selection of materials and attention to detail, which allows to create clothes with a deep cultural and historical reference.
On the other hand, DOLCE DERZA is a capsule collection in which I am involved with Viktorii Derza. This collection features a modern and minimalist style that offers clean lines and sophisticated simplicity. Koncept D therefore represents my personal vision of fashion, where each piece is not only aesthetically appealing, but also deeply embedded in the context of historical and cultural values.
Does a successful person like you ever have any worries? How do you fight them or do you go headlong into everything?
Yes, worry is a natural part of my life. I find the greatest support in my partner, who helps me face challenging moments. In the past, I have invested time in relationships with people who did not share my desires and passions. I now surround myself with people who inspire me and support me in my goals, which helps me manage my traditional work and projects better and faster. This approach also allows me to be more proactive about new challenges, goals and dreams.
What inspires you to create? What?
I try to ensure that my work is consistent and that my imprint is noticeable in it. My inspiration is the environment in which I move as a whole with my hobbies. I am known to be a fan of history, and the associated aristocratic air that accompanies me throughout my life. I am also excited when I can give space to high-quality and interesting materials and let their uniqueness stand out in the clothing. Lately, it has become more and more of a pleasure for me to use historical materials and allow them to live their next life in the form of original clothing.
Do you feel any work deformity? If so, what kind of?
My professional deformity consists in the constant need to have everything around me aesthetically perfect and thought out to the last detail. You will not find daily necessities in my apartment, because they disrupt the harmony and beauty of the space, which I try to maintain. Every piece of furniture, every decoration must have its place and contribute to the overall design. My home is like a work of art for me and this approach allows me to live in an environment that inspires and encourages my creativity.
How do you like to spend your time off in the summer, in case you have any?
Although I am fully focused on the preparation of the collection that I will present at the Styl and Kabo fairs in Brno, the design and concept of my new website and e-shop, summer is also a period of intense work for me. In addition to the energy I devote to these projects, we traditionally prepare the new year of the most prestigious beauty contest in the Czech Republic, which includes many photo shoots, filming and numerous meetings related to graphics and organization. All of these activities demand a significant amount of my time, but when I do, I like to enjoy quiet walks with a glass of wine or a delicious coffee with my partner, exploring old family homes and castles.
What do you like to wear in summer and in general?
My dressing style reflects the elegant spirit of old money style. My go-to pieces are a white shirt, linen shorts and leather loafers that allow me to combine comfort with tasteful sophistication. I also love jewellery that adds a special touch to an outfit. That's why my collection often includes jewellery accessories made of Czech crystal, which beautifully match my style and give it a touch of elegance.
What is your favourite food and drink in the summer?
In the summer, I enjoy quality prosecco and local wines the most, which perfectly complement my light and healthy diet. These drinks add to the overall experience and refreshment.
Can you tell us about your upcoming show at Styl and Kabo?
The show at Styl and Kabo, which I am preparing under the brand Koncept D, will present a sophisticatedly appealing collection that uses a fusion of historic elements and modern design. The collection is inspired by the beauty of past eras, which I combined with current fashion trends, creating a unique and timeless look.
I use exclusive and antique materials that add depth and authenticity to the garments. Each piece is designed with femininity and elegance in mind, allowing women to feel confident, highly feminine and attractive in my clothes. The aim is not only to celebrate traditional craftsmanship and aesthetics, but also to ensure that each piece conveys a sense of luxury and sophistication.
Is there anything you would never wear or shoes you would never wear?
I would never wear flip flops. Although they have their place in many people's everyday comfort, their style doesn't quite match my sense of fashion. I prefer shoes that add a touch of subtle elegance and quality to an outfit and reflect my personal style.
What do you value most about the people around you?
Because I have been lucky enough to meet many inspiring people in my life, what I appreciate most about the people around me is their ability to inspire and support me. I am lucky to be in the presence of many inspiring personalities, among whom I would like to single out Countess Karla Lažaňská and her extraordinary support, which is invaluable to me. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to my partner Mikuláš Michael, whose presence provides me with a valuable look into the mirror that reflects not only historical stories, but also beauty and love in everyday life. Thanks to him, I find peace and joy, whether in his eyes or in our life together. His support and love remind me that life is full of magic if we know how to look in the right direction.
Thank you for the interview.
