The Village of the Year competition in the Rural Renewal Programme was established in 1995 and its aim is, among other things, to motivate rural residents to actively participate in the development of their home or to draw the attention of the general public to the importance of the countryside.
At the beginning of October, the results were announced at a ceremony in Valtice. The winner of this year's 28th edition was the village of Vacov from the foothills of Šumava with about 1500 inhabitants. At the award ceremony, the mayor of the municipality received a voucher for participation in the URBIS 2025 trade fair worth CZK 50,000 from BVV Trade Fairs Brno.
