When a good idea meets a noble purpose, textile art takes on an entirely new dimension. One such example is the creation of quilted pillow covers undertaken by the Bohemian Patchwork Club from Prague. On Saturday, the club’s chairwoman, Anna Králíková, handed over the pillows and other gifts to Petra Hnátová, a representative of the organization Cesty životem bez bariér (Journey Through Life Without Barriers). Petra traveled from Kutná Hora to the Brno Exhibition Center to collect the gifts, which will be presented to children in wheelchairs during a special sports awards ceremony.

"Last year, we organized our first charity event, sewing pillows for the Hospice of St. Elizabeth in Brno. This year, our member Hanička from Kutná Hora suggested another cause: the Cesty životem bez bariér association for children with disabilities. She asked if we could sew their logo — a dog in a wheelchair. The children in the club attend swimming courses, and at the end of the school year, they will receive their 'wet report cards' along with our handmade pillows. In total, we are sending 45 pillows," said Anna Králíková, founder of the Bohemian Patchwork Club.

Anna has been practicing patchwork since 2003 and studied technology at Tomáš Baťa University, specializing in leather goods, a field in which she both worked and taught. As she explains, the club brings together women from a wide range of professions, from lathe operators to ophthalmologists, many of whom see quilt-making as a way to relax.

The club is divided into two groups: a traditional patchwork club focusing on classic techniques, and a contemporary quilt club, which explores non-cotton materials and alternative techniques such as eco-printing.
At the exhibition, the club is presenting two galleries: Roses and Around the World. In the second gallery, Anna Králíková showcased her work The Traveling Foxes, inspired by her granddaughter, who loves foxes and even has them in her name.
